Felting weekend

On Sunday I got some work done, felting some bowls! Here are the slivers laid out to make prefelts.
Here I am with my first ever bowl on a ball. That is a kids ball covered in wool!!
Here I am hardening it up a bit.
A number of balls and hours later, they have been fulled in the clothes dryer and are being molded to shape...

A productive day!

Today my husband's aunts came over and I taught them how to make felt! We had a great day. Alison made a sample piece (above) which she is planning to cut up and sew into something. And she made baby booties (below) for a friend's newborn.
So cute!!! Carole made a nuno scarf will lovely frilly edges. See my cat in the background!! And Alison in the foreground. And you thought you'd gotten away without getting in a photo!!!
Here is a close up of the scarf...
Awesome work!! We will have another play day soon. Maybe floor mats? They are both hellbent on making a jacket but it was such a big job that we'll probably leave them for a while.

Elementia Series

Important art making equipment....Now that I've finished my commission it is full steam ahead working on my exhibition pieces. This is a series that I am quite excited about. I have dyed habotai silk in 5 different variations
I am planning to to machine embroider 36 tiles on each which will be cut out and placed on a background fabric. Each colour will represent an element. I have almost finished stitching the grids on all the colours. One to go.
Sample piece.
What the tiles will look like...

Finished piece

This is the commission I have been working on. All done! Took it to the framers yesterday. The background is an amazing peacock turquoise dupion silk. For some reason my camera has trouble with this colour. Here are some close ups. What I enjoyed about this process was making a whole pile of samples first and then working to incorporate them. I knew what colours I would be using so I made a piece to cut up into diamonds, above. I also made some paper castings to match the colours and theme. I even did some beading!!! Very impressed with myself.
